One of the things you'll notice if you lease a car is that the salesman avoids the topic of 'price' and focuses like a laser on 'monthly payment'. The lease then gets structured around the monthly payment you, the customer, have provided the salesman. Sage advice is always to negotiate the price of the car first, then disclose how you'll finance it. Otherwise, all sorts of additional charges and features get added to the full sticker price you're now on the hook for. What's another $10/month for undercoating and another $15 for extended warranty, etc?
With any large financial commitment, you should understand what you're on the hook for. What's the total purchase price? I've seen lease agreements as high as $15/DC watt when the market price for a cash purchase is $6/DC watt. Do you really want to buy something for 2.5x the going rate?
The devil is in the details, and is usually cleverly hidden somewhere deep inside 40+ pages of paperwork. Those who dig deep will learn the true cost of what they're signing up for, and only then will be in a position to make an educated purchase.

Great advice for leasing anything, great advice for hiring contractors in general. And with the unfamiliarity of solar, this can all be an even more daunting task.
The win/win/win part of the article is positive.
The rest is pretty daunting. The bottom line is, going solar isn't as complicated as making sure you aren't getting taken for a ride.

Yes, or no?
